Monthly Intentions: June

Getting more intentional each day is something that is always on my mind. Because I love the process of becoming more of who I am, setting intentions is a big part of the journey. Intentions don’t require you to forward-think. Instead, they do the opposite and keep inviting you to reevaluate the present moment. I also love intentions because they force me to ask ‘why’. Why do I want to ‘intend’ to be that way or do that thing? When the answers to those why’s come from a genuine place, I can confirm that I’m living each day aligned with the values that mean something to me.

Maybe you saw last month’s post about my intentions for May. If not, you can still read on but it might be nice for you to look back at what I wrote then too. I got the idea of sharing my intentions with you from Lee from America. She does a very similar exercise like this and I wanted to get on board.

I keep this list posted by my dresser so that I see it everyday.

1. Soak up each day.

I want to make a conscious decision to relish in each day. Especially now that it’s summer, I don’t want a moment to go to waste. So even if I need to work, like I am right now, my intention is to find a way to soak up that space. In this instance, I chose to work by a big window in our house so I still get lots of light. I love long summer nights, sitting outside, waking up early, and getting moving. I want to give myself permission to indulge more in the day and worry less about what’s next instead of focusing on what’s right in front of me. This means staying out the extra hour, waking up early to walk in the park before work, staying outside on the deck to talk with neighbours instead of watching TV, or playing hooky on Fridays and heading to the cottage early.

2. Meditate once a day.

I’m still on track for this and am happy to report that it’s going well! This is just something that I always need to set an intention behind. Right now, I need reminders and the ‘why’ behind this habit because it still isn’t completely second nature. If I don’t glance at my list, sometimes meditating falls to the wayside. But that’s why we’re doing this, right!? I found this beautiful meditation the other day by Sarah Blondin, called ‘Honouring Life’. I absolutely can’t get enough of it and how it makes me feel. She pulls you deep into gratitude for the beautiful, normal, ordinary life that you get to live. It’s just 9 minutes, but it’s really powerful.

3. Enjoy the process.

Since work has been a little slow lately, I’ve been catching myself feeling restless and ruminating on thoughts of not being productive. When I come to my senses, I remind myself that life is happening right now and I’m missing it by thinking that I’m not doing things the right way. Whether I make zero dollars in a day or a million, life is happening. I am breathing, moving, living and that comes before any outcome, sale, or paycheque. We are so accustomed to measuring our worth by our ‘doing’ and by what we produce. This isn’t a sentiment that I think is health and so enjoying the process will help me to move away from it.

4. Go natural.

My skin’s been a little iffy lately, probably from stress. I just wanted to let myself off the hook for June and give my body a break. Instead of trying to mask anything or cover up — whether it’s my skin or a part of my body — my intention is to show myself love and get used to presenting my most natural self. My solution is to cleanse, heal, and nurture starting from the inside.

5. Nurture our space.

Our apartment is ever-evolving into the space that best supports Adam and I’s lives. It’s such a fun project that we always have our eye on and can add to (but mostly subtract from) on a weekly basis. For instance, we recently upped our plant game and have even more green in our home. We also want to put a little more love into the bathroom and maybe re-paint the vanity. It’s little projects that are not only fun to do together but feel rewarding because they truly make home feel like home.

That’s it for June! Thanks for taking the time to read.
