The Power of Setting Monthly Intentions

At the beginning of each month, I set time aside for what I like to call my “Power Hour”. I sit down and go over both my process goals and static goals. I schedule in the little things that I’ve committed to for this year — such as, a self care treat once a month (this month, it’ll be a sensory deprivation float), intentional time spent in nature (I’ll be visiting one of my favourite provincial parks next weekend for a hike and beach time), and meet ups with family and friends.

I love my Power Hour because I get to remind myself of what I’m working towards. Sometimes, I feel off track, so I can redirect. Or sometimes I change up my goals entirely and by setting this time aside, I can do it mindfully and without stress.

Because I’m so immersed in personal development 99% of the time, I also find myself adding things to my mindfulness plate over the course of each month. These are usually intentions or ‘ways of being’ that I pick up from little lessons I’ve learned. After seeing Lee from America’s May Intentions post, I was inspired to start doing this myself. So on top of my goal check in, I will write out intentions for each month and share them with you when it feels right. These are intentions that are aligned with my goals and are kind of like little pieces that are floating to the surface of my mind for this specific month.

Because I’m always evolving, the intentions I’m working with are always changing too. This is a thoughtful way for me to manifest something new each month based on how I’m feeling in the moment.

So for May! May is my birthday month. I’m welcoming my 28th year and feel more like myself than I ever have. I’ve been in the habit of doing a Loving Kindness Meditation every day for the last couple weeks and I find myself welling up with happy tears each time. I have gratitude spilling over in my life right now and feel incredibly fortunate. Nonetheless, there are always things I could be doing to strengthen my mindset, practice more awareness, and grow more into the human I want to be.

  1. Ask for help. This month, I’m going to ask others for their support. A big block for…
